Job 1:20-21
20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
Have you ever had a bad day and just wanted to quit? Has it ever seemed like everything is going against you and it is just not worth it anymore? If you look at Job, he was a man that had everything and thanked God for it. He was a just and upright man but Satan said that was because God did everything for him. So God told Satan that you can take away all that Job has, but you can’t touch him. What happened next was Job’s worst day in life but yet we can see a wonderful example of graciousness in Job. Instead of Job moaning and groaning and complaining and asking “why me, what did I do wrong,” Job ripped his clothes and shaved his head (sounds like something I would do) and fell down to the ground and worshipped. That word worship is to be prostrate or to do reverence. What Job did was he prayed but look at his prayer, it wasn’t “God why did you do this?” It wasn’t “God what did I do wrong to deserve this,” or “God please give me everything back and fix it.” Instead Job prayed and said “I was born naked and I will die naked,” God gives and God can take away and then the clincher… instead of GOD WHY it is “blessed be the name of the LORD.” We all need to have the heart and faithfulness of Job in times of trouble.
Rejoicing in Grace,
Keith
